ENTERPRISE — There’ll soon be a new sheriff in town for Wallowa County.

County commissioners will officially appoint Ryan Moody to replace Joel Fish on Monday, December 18th.

The county moved to appoint Moody during its December 6 meeting.

Moody is currently a sergeant with the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office and has been with the department for 18 months. He previously worked for the Benton County Sheriff’s Office for more than three decades.

Sheriff Fish is retiring effective January 1st. He said he resigned as sheriff to move to North Carolina to take care of his mother.

Fish recommended Moody to the commissioners as his replacement.

“Moody plans to continue working to make the Office of Sheriff more professional, ” said Sheriff Fish.  “I know that he’ll be fiscally responsible and continue to give great service to the citizens of Wallowa County.”

The Wallowa County Sheriff’s position will be up for election in May 2024.
