Wallowa County resident sentenced on sexual abuse charges

WALLOWA COUNTY – (Release from the Wallowa County District Attorney) On February 16, 2024, Brooke Van Sickle, age 43, was found guilty in Wallowa County Circuit Court of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) and two counts of Harassment of a Sexual or Intimate Part (Class A Misdemeanor), following a multi-day trial to the Court, for conduct committed against three separate women.  

A person commits the crime of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree if the person subjects another person to sexual contact, the other person does not consent to the contact, and the contact was done for the purpose of sexual gratification. A person commits the crime of Harassment of a Sexual or Intimate Part if the person intentionally harasses or annoys another person by subjecting that person to offensive physical contact and the physical contact consists of touching of the sexual or intimate parts of the other person. Van Sickle was alleged to have committed crimes against five different women. Van Sickle was found not guilty of one count of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, and three counts of Harassment of a Sexual or Intimate Part. 

Van Sickle was sentenced on February 21, 2024, by Judge Thomas B. Powers on these charges. Van Sickle will serve 30 days in jail, and 40 days on the work crew, and is subject to 36 months of supervised probation. As a condition of probation, Van Sickle is ordered to have no contact with the victims, their families, their residences, and places of employment, complete a sex offender evaluation and any recommended treatment, and complete drug and alcohol treatment.  Based on her conviction for Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, Van Sickle is required to register as a sex offender.
