Wallowa County has been awarded a $450,000 grant from the Oregon State Marine Board to replace aging public docks at Wallowa Lake and support long-term improvements at Wallowa Lake County Park.
The current floating docks, located on the southeast corner of the lake and installed more than 20 years ago, have significantly deteriorated and have been deemed unsafe for public use. The grant-funded project will replace the existing infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable lake access for residents and visitors.
This effort is part of a broader, phased plan to enhance the county park and surrounding facilities. Planned improvements include expanded parking, full resurfacing of the parking lot, upgraded restroom facilities, and new signage designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion along the highway.
Initial work is expected to begin in 2026, with early phases focused on restriping the parking lot and installing updated signage to better manage vehicle circulation and maximize available space.
“These upgrades reflect Wallowa County’s commitment to the safety of everyone who enjoys the lake and park facilities and are a combined effort between all of county government and the Oregon State Marine Board,” said Sheriff Ryan Moody, who submitted the grant application.
