Wallowa could see the return of a local Lions Club

WALLOWA – Development is continuing on the re-launch of a local Lions Club for the Wallowa community. Back in early August, Lions District G governor David Nevin announced that new clubs were being explored in Wallowa, Maupin, and Dufer. More recently, the Elgin Lions Club shared an additional update on this proposed Wallowa Chapter, and things are starting to develop.
According to Elgin Lions Club member Gerald Hopkins, 19 people signed up to-re-establish a Lions Club for the community, with the Joseph-Enterprise Lions offering to sponsor and mentor the new group. The most recent update on the club’s development, as provided by the Elgin Lions, is as follows:
“Nineteen individuals have signed up in the Wallowa community to re-establish a Lions’ Club for service to the area. The group met at the Assembly of God Fellowship Hall to explore ways the club could meet and have the necessary paperwork for Lions International. The group was led by International Director Candidate Phyllis Carlin of Crooked River, President Jerold Hustafa of the Joseph-Enterprise Lions, and District Governor David Nevin of Hermiston.
Six Lions from Elgin were also on hand to offer ideas and suggestions for a successful launch of the club. Hustafa assured the new members Joseph-Enterprise Lions would sponsor Wallowa and mentor the progress made. Hustafa would also set up the next meeting to move forward with the club’s progress.”
