WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla VA Medical Center Director Scott Kelter reports that the renovation of Building 86, the original infirmary, is almost finished. The design/build project took about five years.

The radiology department is already seeing patients in the building.

“Hopefully next Wednesday, the other services in that building will start seeing patients, including our health care for homeless veterans’ programs, whole health, health promotions, and disease prevention programs,” Kelter said.

Kelso-based Pacific Tech Construction was the lead contractor on the $41.5 million renovation project of Building 86, which is the large brick building at the west end of the parade grounds on the Walla Walla campus.

The 45,130-square-foot building, on the National Register of Historic Places, was renovated for better healthcare services. Upgrades included architectural, mechanical, electrical, and communications systems. The existing systems were replaced while maintaining operation. Exterior work restored historic features and added new utilities. A new 2,100-square-foot sterile processing department was also built.
