Walla Walla County submits federal grant request for U.S. 12’s final phase

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County recently submitted a $281 million grant request to the U.S. Department of Transportation for the final phase of U.S. Highway 12.
Phase eight will complete the approximately 10 miles of new four-lane divided highway that remains from Wallula and Nine Mile Hill.
Preparation of the grant was led by the Port of Walla Walla, and was a team effort by the port, Walla Walla County, city of Walla Walla, Washington State Department of Transportation, and two consulting firms.
If the grant is successful, construction would likely begin in 2027 and be completed in 2030.
