Walla Walla starts Wilbur Avenue bridge work next week, delays others

WALLA WALLA – Construction work on the Wilbur Avenue Bridge is scheduled to begin next Tuesday, starting a project expected to last up to four weeks, according to Walla Walla Public Works.
Drivers should anticipate delays, as crews will implement lane shifts and temporary single-lane traffic guided by on-site flaggers. One direction of travel will remain open throughout construction. Pedestrian and bicycle detours will also be established for sidewalk replacement and bridge railing repairs.
The project is part of a mostly federally funded $2 million preservation initiative to extend the service life of nine aging city bridges.
Meanwhile, previously planned work on the Myra Road and Tausick Way bridges has been postponed due to warm temperatures and material requirements for the preservation process.
