WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council has renewed a contract with Basin Disposal, Inc. to continue recycling services for the next 10 years. The current contract was to expire January 31, 2024.

City Manager Elizabeth Chamberlain said during the council’s discussion, they voted to introduce plastics of value into the recycling, and voted on the rate structure. However, they voted down including glass recycling.

“The additional $2.60 a month for glass recycling was concerning to some council members,” Chamberlain said. “Adding plastics back into recycling does not have an additional rate since plastics will be co-mingled with the current materials recycled now.”

The 2024 rate will be $7.60 a month, which is an increase over the 2023 residential rate of $6.37.
