WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Public Works Director Ki Bealey reported to the city council last week that the city has received notice of a $2.5 million grant from the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board for the Myra Road extension project.
The TIB is an independent state agency, created by the Washington Legislature, that distributes and manages street construction and maintenance grants throughout the state. Funding for TIB’s grant programs comes from revenue generated by three cents of the statewide gas tax.
The total cost to extend Myra Road from State Route 125 to Taumarson Road is $15.2 million. Bealey explained once completed, the Myra Road extension project opens up a significant portion of land for residential and commercial development.
Walla Walla City Manager Elizabeth Chamberlain said funding for the Myra Road extension project currently sits at $12.5 million and added the project will begin construction in spring 2025. She anticipates the city council will see an agenda item next month to accept the TIB grant.
