Walla Walla Public Schools Advocate Sergio Hernandez honored with SEWASA Leadership Award

WALLA WALLA — Longtime educator Sergio Hernandez has been named the recipient of the 2026 Southeast Washington Association of School Administrators Community Leadership Award, Walla Walla Public Schools announced.
Hernandez, the ambassador for Walla Walla Public Schools’ Hispanic Community Leaders Focus Group, was honored June 18 at a banquet in Richland. Superintendent Ben Gauyan presented the award, celebrating Hernandez’s 56-year career dedicated to education, community engagement, and student success.
“Sergio’s lifelong commitment to education and his unwavering dedication to students and families make him exceptionally deserving of this recognition,” Gauyan said.
Hernandez previously served as the district’s Director of Multicultural Services and supported its Equity and Dual Language Department. He currently leads the Washington Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents.
