Walla Walla police arrests barricaded suspect

WALLA WALLA – Kenneth R. Shipman, 42, of Walla Walla was taken into custody Monday night by the Walla Walla Regional SWAT team following a five-hour standoff for violation of a no contact order and felony harassment (threats to kill).

The Walla Walla Police Department took the report of Shipman violating a valid protection order and making threats to kill at about 2 p.m. Monday. Officers attempted to contact Shipman at that time but were unable to locate him.

Later in the day, at about 5 p.m., Shipman returned to his apartment located on the 2200 block of Isaacs Avenue. Contact was made and Shipman barricaded himself in his apartment. Based on information received by officers that Shipman was armed and his history, the Walla Walla Regional SWAT team was called to take over the incident. A crisis negotiator made phone contact with Shipman and talked him out of the apartment. At about 10:20 p.m., Shipman came out of his apartment and surrendered to police.

Shipman was booked into the Walla Walla County Jail on charges of violation of a domestic violence (DV) no contact order and harassment (threats to kill) DV. No injuries were sustained during this incident.
