WALLA WALLA COUNTY – A Walla Walla County man was sentenced to six months in jail Wednesday morning following a domestic violence incident involving strangulation.
Brian Allen Jones, 46, appeared before Walla Walla County Superior Judge Brandon Johnson for sentencing on charges of second-degree assault and domestic violence.
The charges stem from an incident in August 2025 involving a former partner, whom prosecutors described as a “volatile and toxic” relationship exacerbated by alcohol abuse.
During the hearing, a longtime friend and colleague testified to Jones’s character, describing him as a dedicated mentor and “kind human being,” and also emphasized that Jones had been sober since the incident and was working hard to support himself before serving his time.
While acknowledging Jones’s positive traits and military service, Walla Walla County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michelle Mulhern emphasized the lethality of strangulation, noting that the victim has since moved out of the area to be closer to family.
Judge Brandon Johnson followed the agreed-upon recommendation, imposing six months in jail for the primary assault charge; 18 months of community custody; a 12-month suspended sentence, conditional on Jones staying out of legal trouble; and mandatory evaluation and treatment for substance use disorder.
Jones, who remained soft spoken throughout the proceedings, apologized for “wasting everyone’s time” and stated he has remained sober since the event. He was ordered to report to jail by 5 p.m. Wednesday to begin his sentence.
