Walla Walla man facing child abuse, incest charges following police investigation

WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Police Department has referred criminal charges against a Walla Walla man to the Walla Walla County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office following an investigation into allegations of historical child sexual abuse.
Corey Alan Howard, 56, faces potential charges of second-degree rape of a child and incest, according to a Walla Walla Police Department news release issued Tuesday. Investigators developed probable cause based on reports that Howard sexually abused his adoptive daughter over a several-year period while she was a juvenile. The conduct allegedly occurred within city limits when the victim was between 12 and 16 years old.
Howard made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon via a video link from the Walla Walla County Jail. During the hearing, Walla Walla County Superior Court Judge Patricia Fulton found probable cause for multiple counts and set Howard’s bail at $30,000, with a 10 percent cash alternative.
As conditions of his release, Howard was ordered to have no contact with minors, forcing him to relocate from his residence where his children reside. Howard will instead reside at a friend’s home in Dixie, and must comply with a strict no-contact order protecting the victim.
Howard indicated he understood the charges and maximum penalties, which carry maximum sentences ranging from 10 years to life in prison. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
