Walla Walla man arrested on bench warrant

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Police Department reports the arrest of a man on an active bench warrant issued out of Walla Walla County Superior Court.
The warrant for Matthew Ryan Hammond, 34, of Walla Walla was issued after he allegedly failed to appear for his Oct. 7 sentencing hearing after he pleaded guilty to second-degree malicious mischief and second-degree burglary.
Hammond was arrested on Aug. 7, 2023, on probable cause of arson in connection with a fire at 409 W. Rees Ave. An officer saw Hammond and arrested him on the 500 block of Edith Avenue. Hammond attempted to elude and was found hiding in a backyard shed.
