BAKER COUNTY – (Release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) On March 20, 2023, at approximately 2:24 p.m., Baker County Dispatch received a traffic complaint on I-84 eastbound. The caller indicated that a Chevrolet pickup had been driving down the shoulder for several miles.
Deputy Chad Mills responded to the area in an effort to locate the vehicle. As he turned onto Highway 86 near Hughes Lane, he observed a Chevrolet Silverado stopped in the lane of travel impeding traffic. The driver did not appear responsive. Deputy Mills performed a traffic stop and contacted the driver, identified as Jarell Blayne Jones (43 yoa) of Walla Walla, Washington. During the course of the investigation, Jones showed signs of impairment.
Jones was taken into custody and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. He was transported to the Baker County Jail, where it was determined he had a Blood Alcohol Content over three times the legal limit.
Baker County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police.
