WALLA WALLA – The city of Walla Walla is providing information on how and where puncturevine grows and how to eliminate it.

Puncturevine, which is also known called goat head or Devil’s Thorn, is a noxious weed that has spiny seeds that can injure feet and flatten bicycle tires. It is a common issue in recreational areas like multi-use paths, sidewalks, and rural roads.

Puncturevine can grow quickly, so it should be controlled before it flowers and puts out seeds. Residents may see it sprouting now, and small plants can be hand-pulled or removed with a hoe. Post emergent herbicides are also effective when the plants are small.
