Walla Walla County restricts parking on three rural roads after vehicle camping complaints

WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 Monday to approve an ordinance restricting parking on three rural roads following residential complaints regarding long-term vehicle camping.
The measure establishes a daytime two-hour parking limit and a total parking ban between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Pike’s Peak, Foster, and West Prentiss roads. Enforcement will be managed on a complaint basis by the sheriff’s office once signage is posted.
During the public hearing, local resident Lee Stelk urged officials to extend the daytime limit to four hours to accommodate hikers, cyclists, and cemetery volunteers.
Commissioners acknowledged that state law limits their ability to directly remove individuals living on county rights-of-way, leaving localized parking restrictions as their primary enforcement tool.
