WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council work session on Monday, Dec. 1 will feature updates from Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless Executive Director Jordan Green, about the Sleep Center, 1181 W. Rees Ave., which has been operating since 2019.

Parks and Recreation Director Andy Colemen will lead discussions on park and recreation fees. A proposed fee ordinance, which includes the Veterans Memorial Golf Course, is expected to generate about $1.2 million in revenue. The Parks and Recreation Department recovers 65 percent of expenses through various fees, such as pool access, youth sports, facility rentals, and golf.

Coleman will also address the lease of the Jefferson Park Community Center with the Walla Walla Senior Center organization, which has been in place for 30 years and is nearing its end. Parks and Recreation staff propose a new five-year lease with similar terms to the previous one, emphasizing the importance of the partnership for the community. The senior center has experienced a 130 percent increase in its nutritional program since 2019, and Executive Director Brian Berry, will be in attendance to make a presentation.

The proposed lease of the Jefferson Park Community Center includes terms that allow the Parks and Recreation Department’s pottery painting studio to continue operating there, permits the city to use the facility without charge, and requires collaboration for future building improvements.

On Nov. 3, the Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Advisory Board unanimously supported the lease proposal.

Monday’s work session will start at 4 p.m. in council chambers at Walla Walla City Hall, 15 N. Third Ave., and will be available for viewing on the city’s website.
