WAITSBURG – The city of Waitsburg will conduct its annual test of emergency sirens today (Tuesday) at 10 a.m. These sirens, primarily intended for flood alerts, can also be activated for any hazard that poses a threat to the residents of Waitsburg and the surrounding areas.
Waitsburg City Administrator Randy Hinchliffe said the siren that is being tested is the located atop the Weller Public Library on Main Street.
This year, Walla Walla County Emergency Management in collaboration with the city of Waitsburg will send out a test message using the County Emergency Notification System when the sirens are sounded. In a real emergency, this system will provide crucial information on steps to take for personal safety and details on where immediate shelter might be available.
The test message will be delivered through phone, SMS, and email. Walla Walla County Emergency Management asks anyone who receives the test message to take a moment to confirm they received it. The public’s response is vital in helping the department evaluate the coverage and effectiveness of the Emergency Notification System.
