WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg School Board accepted Thursday the immediate resignation of Superintendent David Woods, who has served in the role since July 1, 2023. The board also decided to begin an immediate search for an interim superintendent.

During an open public meeting held Thursday morning, the board voted to appoint Waitsburg School Board Chair Carol Clarke as acting superintendent.

Clarke, who has served on the board since Dec. 15, 2021, retired from the district as superintendent in June 2017. She has more than 40 years of experience in education, teaching everything from early childhood education to graduate level classes.

Interested applicants are asked to submit a current resume and letter of interest to Educational Service District 123 Director of Human Resources Kaylee Bolt via email at kbolt@esd123.org. The deadline for submissions is 12 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15. The board is reserving the afternoon of Aug. 16 for interviews.

While the school board is planning a more comprehensive search for a permanent supervisor this fall, the interim appointment will ensure the continued support and service of Waitsburg’s students, families and staff in the upcoming year.
