WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg Parks and Recreation District and the Waitsburg Friends of the Pool have successfully raised funds to match a donor’s $10,000 grant to build a new swimming pool. Due to extensive structural issues, the pool has not been open since 2020.
An anonymous donor set a deadline of Sept. 30 to match the $10,000 grant. From a cocktail party to pie contest fundraisers, along with other financial gifts made, $10,900 was raised, matching the $10,000 grant.
With a total of $20,900, the match grant donor was contacted to share the good news to which the donor replied, “Well, I better give another $10,000.”
“The funds will allow the team to put up matching dollars and apply for bigger grants in the months to come,” Waitsburg City Councilwoman Jillian Henze said. “Work will begin on site analysis in the next couple of weeks.”
Henze, who is also a liaison for the Waitsburg Parks and Recreation District said the team knows location challenges lie ahead, but the team is committed to continue working hard to bring Waitsburg a new swimming pool in the years to come.
