WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg City Council meets tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. They will discuss and may act on a resolution to change livestock restrictions in the city code.

If passed, only one livestock animal would be allowed in any zone unless the lot is at least one-quarter of one acre of open space. The city of Waitsburg defines livestock as horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, mules, jacks, burros, oxen, rabbits, llama, alpaca, and other animals commonly bred and raised for fur and/or meat.

Swine is generally not allowed, except for special permission on a case-by-case basis by the city administrator.

The zoning restriction only applies to lots after the date of the passage of the amended ordinance. Any animal being housed prior to the amended ordinance going into effect that leaves the property for any reason cannot be replaced.

The amended ordinance does not apply to 4H or FFA animals being kept at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds.

No livestock will be allowed on residential lots where there are residential dwellings within 100 feet of the open space area.

The meeting is at Waitsburg City Hall, 106 Main St., and available on Zoom. Login instructions can be found at https://www.cityofwaitsburg.com/government-1.
