WALLA WALLA –Jackson Adams of Walla Walla has been named The American Legion’s Eagle Scout of the Year for 2023. He is receiving a $10,000 college scholarship.

Adams, a senior at Walla Walla High School and member of Scouts BSA Troop 305, taught himself computer-aided design and 3-D printing during the pandemic to create ear savers – a collection of COVID mask straps that relieves pressure on the wearer’s ears.

Adams began a community-wide effort to provide 1,000 ear savers to frontline workers. In the end, he more than doubled his goal.

In August, Adams will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to be honored at The American Legion’s 104th National Convention. He will begin studying mechanical engineering at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois this fall.
