Voyeur is arrested

KENNEWICK – Earlier this month, Kennewick Police responded to the report of a prowler on South Rainier Street who had unscrewed light bulbs on the property. A security camera system was operating at the residence and a video was given to officers.

It showed a man who was allegedly masturbating while at a bedroom window of the residence. The criminal investigations division of the police department used the video to get help from community members in identifying the suspect.

Police arrested James Schneider Sr., 48, of Finley as the perpetrator. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force aided in the arrest. He has been booked into Benton County Jail, charged with two counts of voyeurism.

KPD expressed gratitude to the people who helped in identifying the suspect.

“The fact that Schneider went to great lengths to unscrew light bulbs prior to allegedly committing these crimes is a good reminder that criminals try to conduct their activities in the dark,” Public Information Officer Lt. Aaron Clem wrote in a news release. “For that reason, we should all remember to have the exterior of our homes well lit when possible.”
