Community members are invited to participate in the Annual Community Serve Day, a large-scale volunteer effort serving communities across the Western Treasure Valley. This year, projects are currently planned in Ontario, Weiser, Nyssa, Vale, Payette, New Plymouth, and Fruitland, with additional projects continuing to be added.
The event brings together individuals, families, service organizations, churches, and student groups to support local needs and strengthen community connections.
Community Serve Day activities will begin on April 25 at the Malheur County Fairgrounds, where coffee and breakfast will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. Volunteers can check in, connect with other participants, and then be directed to project locations.
This year’s Community Serve Day includes 87 service projects and counting, with a strong focus on serving underserved populations, including senior citizens and individuals with disabilities, as well as municipal agencies and nonprofit organizations throughout the region.
Projects vary in scope and skill level. Volunteer needs include:
Sample projects include the Kiwanis Lanterman Park cleanup and fence building in Ontario, Weiser Fiddle Festival cleanup, Weiser Trailhead cleanup, Ontario State Park cleanup, and service work with Next Chapter Food Pantry and other area food banks.
While many projects will take place on Saturday, April 25, not all projects occur on that day. Groups interested in serving on an alternate day during that week are encouraged to indicate their preference during registration.
Organizers are seeing strong early interest from youth, with student groups from every participating city expressing interest in serving—reflecting a growing commitment among young people to give back to their communities.
Community Serve Day provides an opportunity for groups to bond and for families to demonstrate the value of service to younger generations. Every volunteer plays an essential role, and additional help is still needed to support projects throughout the region.
Individuals, teams, service organizations, church groups, and families are encouraged to sign up at www.serveday.info.
Every volunteer matters, and together we can strengthen our communities.
