LA GRANDE – (Information from La Grande Parks and Recreation) La Grande Parks and Recreation would like the volunteers that participated in this year’s fall tree planting day. In total, thirty new trees were planted, bolstering the health of the city’s urban forest scape in addition to providing a welcome aesthetic improvement. Parks and Rec specifically issues the following statement in recognition of a successful tree planting:
“Many thanks to the Grow La Grande Volunteers who turned out Saturday to plant trees! Thirty new shade trees were planted in La Grande in celebration of National Neighborwoods Month. Besides making our town a more beautiful place to live, trees are essential green infrastructure. They improve our lives by providing clean air to breathe and absorbing harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Trees provide shade that lowers the chance of illness or death related to heat and saves energy. Trees act as natural flood control, catching the rain so it can soak into the soil. Trees improve human health by reducing stress, reducing respiratory and heart disease rates, and increasing greater overall life expectancy. Trees increase property values and create job opportunities. Trees are good neighbors!”
