BAKER CITY — Comments are often made on how beautiful the downtown area of Baker City is, and much of that beauty is made possible by the hard work of volunteers.

Baker City Police Chief Ty Duby is one of those volunteers. BCPD recently shared a photo of the Chief watering a hanging basket on Main Street. The Baker City Police Department has a small handful of volunteers who have signed on to help with watering duties—a volunteer opportunity open to the public. Baker City Downtown stated, “We rely on volunteers to water the 90 flower baskets down Main Street every summer.”

Volunteer watering teams are encouraged to contact Baker City Downtown to sign up. The organization says, “Watering is best done in pairs, with one person driving and one person walking and watering! The driver must be 18 with a valid driver’s license and a vehicle with a 2″ ball hitch. The waterer can be any age! It takes just over an hour to water all the flowers.”

Interested volunteers can sign up by calling or texting (541) 283-6963.
