WALLOWA COUNTY – Recently, a group of five volunteers attacked the Murphy Bridge project in one very long day. According to Wallowa Mountains Hells Canyon Trails Association, “There were a few small issues along the way – including a downed tree with an ugly root wad looming above – but these proved no obstacle with so many capable hands involved.”
In addition, volunteers “replaced the broken and rotted deck plank, replaced and shored up an end upright post, and put on a new railing for the bad side (with fancy routed edge and custom lap joints, thanks to Max Linn). They also hauled out a cache of garbage accumulated from upstream.”
The association noted that three rattlesnakes made guest appearances, a reminder that they love clearing trails almost as much as our volunteers.
