Volunteers help the Wildhorse Ladies Golf Classic

MISSION – The Wildhorse Ladies Golf Classic happens next month. Like many major events in the area, it is powered by volunteers. Wildhorse Resort & Casino Chief Executive Officer Gary George says one of the great things volunteers do is open their homes to the women competing in the Epson Tour to the LPGA event.

“A lot of these ladies just graduated from college and don’t have a lot of money to work with,” George said. “So we ask for host housing and we have families that have volunteered to be hosts.”

While the tournament is for three days, most of the golfers arrive early and stay as many as six days, which makes hotel rooms something hard to afford. George said the host families build relationships with their guests that last long after the tournament is done.

The tournament is Aug. 21-23. Volunteers aren’t just limited to host families. Other areas the public can help are cart scorers, marshals, helpers to coordinate the special events, standard bearers, real-time scorers, and greeters.
