Virginia couple killed in I-84 crash in Umatilla County

UMATILLA COUNTY – Oregon State Police reports Franklin R. Bevins, 42, and his wife, Ginger Elaine Bevins, 43, both of Richlands, Virginia, were killed in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 84, near milepost, 214, just before 5 p.m. on Friday. The Bevins were declared deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicated an eastbound Peterbilt commercial motor vehicle and trailer, driven by Franklin R. Bevins left the roadway for unknown reasons, damaged approximately 100 feet of guardrail before striking a concrete overpass railing and falling approximately 25 feet to the roadway below.
The roadway was impacted for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
OSP was assisted by the Umatilla Tribal Fire Department, Umatilla Tribal Police Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
