BAKER CITY — A disturbing incident unfolded on October 5 when local authorities responded to a distress call in Baker City. The victim, an adult female who Elkhorn Media Group will not identify because she is a victim of domestic violence, had a valid restraining order against 46-year-old Daniel Stone, who violated the court order by entering her residence.
According to the probable cause affidavit, upon arrival, a Baker City Police officer found the victim in a state of distress. According to her account, she had been staying with her mother since the issuance of the restraining order against Stone. However, on that day, while alone in the residence, she sensed danger and attempted to leave.
The victim reported that Daniel suddenly appeared and physically prevented her from leaving. Stone also forcibly took the land-line phone from her as she attempted to call 911, removing its batteries in the process. He then demanded access to her cell phone while preventing her from leaving through the front door.
In a desperate bid for escape, the victim managed to open a living room window and jumped out, all while Daniel pursued her. While outside the home, a neighbor intervened, drawing his openly carried pistol, compelling Daniel to retreat through the house and flee the scene.
Law enforcement officers later attempted to locate Daniel at his residence, but with negative results on both occasions. The victim, unharmed physically but traumatized by the incident, believes Daniel entered her residence through a bedroom window, violating the terms of the restraining order, which was issued in September.
Stone was eventually found on October 9, arrested, and charged with Violation of Restraining Order, Burglary 1st Degree, Kidnapping 2nd Degree, Menacing, Harassment, Interference with Making a Report and Coercion.
