UMATILLA COUNTY – Oregon State Police responded to a stolen vehicle report on Tuesday, leading to the recovery of the vehicle but with the suspect having already left the scene.
Toyota contacted the OSP’s southern command center, which covers Umatilla County, and advised them that a recently signed stolen vehicle was possibly parked on the side of Interstate 84. OSP located the vehicle abandoned at mile marker 224 with the vehicle owner’s possessions still inside.
A possible suspect, described as a white adult female carrying a pet carrier with a cat in it, was not located. The pet carrier was later located abandoned with no cat in it.
The carrier was taken and stored. at the OSP Pendleton office. The victim, who was from Pendleton, later responded and recovered the vehicle. The vehicle had been stolen from the Safeway parking lot in Pendleton, and the investigation is ongoing.
