LA GRANDE – (Information from the La Grande Police Department) On the morning of Monday, March 27, a vehicle was reported stolen from the City of La Grande City Shops compound. Later in the day, the same vehicle was involved in a single Vehicle Accident on I-84 near Perry. The La Grande Police Department gave a statement on Monday regarding the initial theft and then an update concerning the crash.
Initial Report:
“This morning at approximately 2:51AM, our officers responded to the City of La Grande – City Shops Compound located on the 800 block of X Avenue for a report of a damaged fence. Once on scene, officers found a fence severely damaged. Upon further investigation, the investigating officers found that someone had stolen a 2013 Chevy 1500 pickup belonging to City Shops. The pickup was inside the gated compound and the suspect(s) drove the truck through the fence and exited the compound near X Avenue and First Street. The investigating officers found further evidence supporting the suspect(s) also tried to steal a pickup that was connected to a trailer hauling an excavator, but the truck got stuck on a curb. Officers reviewed security camera footage, which shows the incident happened at approximately 9:00PM on 03.26.23. The cameras did not capture the suspect(s) but did show the stolen truck leaving the City Shops Compound. There was approximately $1000.00 worth of damage done to the fence.”
Crash Update:
“The stolen vehicle from City Shops has been recovered. It was involved in a single motor vehicle accident on I-84 near Perry. The Oregon State Police is the primary investigative agency for the crash.”
