DALLAS, Texas – Pendleton High School senior Casey VanDorn is one of 21 students, educators, and schools honored for making an impact on the battle against heart disease. The virtual awards ceremony shone light on in-school initiatives to guide students to take control of their health. VanDorn’s work has focused on McKay Creek Elementary School students.
“We are incredibly proud of Casey and all of their work in supporting Kids Heart Challenge at McKay Creek Elementary,” Kelsea Azurdia, the American Heart Association school engagement director said. “Schools play a vital role in building a foundation for future generations and we are thrilled to see our lifesaving mission touch the lives of students, schools, and educators here in Pendleton.”
VanDorn was nominated following more than 10 years of involvement with the program. He has twice survived open heart surgeries and speaks at McKay’s assemblies inspiring children to take charge of their health.
