Vale officials remind public of weed control responsibilities

VALE – Officials with the City of Vale are cracking down on weed control in town. They remind the public that, “The City of Vale Municipal Code requires property owners and those responsible for property to keep weeds, grass, brush, bushes, and other noxious vegetation under control.”
City official stated the regular maintenance helps reduce fire hazards, as well as stopping harmful weeds from going to seed and spreading. It will also help folks avoid paying the city to do it.
Vale staff expressed, “If the City must perform the work through the abatement process, abatement costs will be charged to the property owner. Unpaid balances may be assessed a $2.50 late fee, accrue 10% annual interest, and become a lien against the property.”
Under City of Vale Municipal Code 4.5.28, a person who violates the City’s nuisance ordinance or fails to comply with an order issued under the ordinance may, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of up to $750.
Vale city staff said, “Let’s work together to keep Vale safe, reduce fire risk, and maintain the pride we all have in our community. Thank you for doing your part!”
