VALE – (Release from the Value Bureau of Land Management) Vale Bureau of Land Management firefighters will be conducting planned, prescribed pile burns as conditions allow this winter and into the spring of 2023.
Crews were able to complete 15 acres of pile burning Monday near Bassar Diggins on Lookout Mountain. Tuesday, crews began burning 375 acres of piles along Castle Rock Road near Beulah Reservoir, completing 75 acres. Work will continue there today if conditions remain favorable. Prescribed fire is an important component of natural resource management and part of the comprehensive fire management program on the Vale District BLM.
Burn operations are conducted when conditions, including air quality, temperature, relative humidity, fuel moisture, wind speed and other factors, allow. Actual project ignition depends upon site-specific weather and fuel conditions.
