KENNEWICK — The Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center, located in Walla Walla, will break ground Thursday on a new Kennewick clinic designed to expand medical services for military veterans across the Tri-Cities area.
The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the future clinic site, 3811 Plaza Way. The public event is open to veterans, their families, and local and state officials.
Supported by $48.2 million in federal funding authorized under the 2022 PACT Act, the planned two-story, 100,000-square-foot facility will replace the aging Richland VA Clinic currently housed in the Richland Federal Building.
Officials said the larger facility will help reduce travel burdens for regional veterans by offering specialized care that previously required trips to Walla Walla, Seattle, or other Department of Veterans Affairs facilities.
Planned services at the site will include primary care, mental health services, a pharmacy, radiology, physical therapy, and dental care. The clinic will also house optometry, audiology, prosthetics, laboratory services, and supportive housing and home-based primary care programs.
“Expanding into a larger, modern facility means better access, more services, and improved health outcomes for the veterans we proudly serve,” leadership at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA stated.
Construction is expected to begin following Thursday’s groundbreaking, with the clinic projected to open in early 2029.
