HARNEY COUNTY(Release from the Harney County Sheriff’s Office)-On March 24, 2025, at about 4:38 pm, the Harney County Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a single vehicle UTV crash on the Alvord Desert playa. The reporting party informed dispatch that the female passenger, 48-year-old Megan Renee Summers of Prospect, Oregon has been ejected from the UTV as it rolled over. Ms. Summers was reported to be unconscious and not breathing. Citizens on scene were preforming CPR.
A Harney County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Oregon State Police Troopers and local Bureau of Land Management Law Enforcement Ranger overheard the radio traffic and self-dispatched to the area of the crash. Oregon State Police Troopers were unable to fully reach the scene due to the flooded and muddy conditions.
The deputy arrived on scene, evaluated Ms. Summers, and pronounced her deceased. Next of kin have been notified. Preliminary evidence indicates no signs of foul play. This case remains under investigation.
