BAKER CITY — A Utah man is in the Baker County Jail after leading Baker City Police and Oregon State Troopers on a high-speed chase on I-84.
According to Baker City Police Chief Ty Duby, a state trooper attempted to pull over 41-year-old Samuel Marshall Thompson of Holladay, Utah near Farewell Bend on suspicion of DUII on the night of Monday, July 31. Thompson failed to pull over and led the trooper on a pursuit, OSP terminated the pursuit shortly after.
Baker City Police were aware of the chase and officers positioned themselves on the interstate. Thompson was clocked going 94 miles per hour by officers and they began to pursue him. After a short chase Thompson stopped near the Baker Valley rest area nine miles north of Baker City and was arrested without incident.
He admitted to officers that he smoked marijuana. He now faces reckless driving and attempt to elude charges.
