WALLA WALLA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District has awarded a $1.2 million construction contract to Advanced American Construction of Portland for flood risk management and recreation improvements at Bennington Lake in Walla Walla.
The project, scheduled to begin today (Tuesday), will focus on improving the lake’s intake tower, a vital piece of flood risk management infrastructure. The tower captures water from the lake and allows USACE officials to drain the reservoir as needed to meet both flood risk management and storage capacity needs.
The current public boat ramp at Bennington Lake will also be removed and replaced with a new ramp.
Construction is estimated to be finished by Feb. 28, 2025.
During this project, Reservoir Road to the Bennington Lake Recreation Area will be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Meadowlark Trail will be closed to the public between the north face of Mill Creek Dam and the southern basin portion of Bennington Lake during construction. Intermittent trail closures will be required but most trails and designated hunting areas will remain open.
