PENDLETON – House Bill 2160, which would allow an urban growth boundary expansion in the city of Pendleton, is now before the Senate. It sailed through the House earlier this month.

“It is the result of the flooding that we had in February of 2020,” the sponsor of the bill Rep. Bobby Levy said. “As everybody in Umatilla County will remember, that was a catastrophic flooding.”

The bill sailed through the House of Representatives earlier this month. It picked up only one ‘no’ vote from Rep. Paul Evans (D-Salem). Four lawmakers did not cast votes on the measure. One of those is Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner).

HB 2160 is now before the Senate Natural Resources and Wildfire Recovery Committee. At last check, there had been no hearings or work sessions scheduled for it there.
