Local Burns resident Peter Diaz found deceased in local park

BURNS(Released by Burns Police Department)-On September 09, 2024 at approximately 9:07 a.m., the Burns Police Department was dispatched to a reported apparent death at Washington Park, located in the 300 block of North Birch Avenue, Burns. 

Burns Public Works personnel completing park maintenance activities discovered a locked park bathroom. After unlocking the door to complete maintenance tasks, personnel discovered the deceased subject and contacted law enforcement.

Based upon the initial investigation, the death is considered accidental as the result of illicit substance use. This tragic event took the life of 35-year-old Peter John Diaz of Burns, Oregon.

The Burns Police Department wants to remind the community that substance use, whether alcohol or other substances, can have both serious medical and legal outcomes. Each day is an opportunity to confront and overcome addiction and prevent similar tragic events.
