PENDLETON – A child was struck by a car during dismissal time at Washington Elementary School. Family members confirmed he suffered minor injuries and stated the incident was an accident.

Pendleton School District Superintendent Kevin Headings has supplied more background information. He states that the student darted out between buses and didn’t see the car. Witnesses said the car was traveling at about 10 miles per hour or less when the accident occurred.

The parents of the students were at the scene and 911 was called. The child was transported to St. Anthony Medical Center.

“Fortunately the student sustained minor injuries – scrapes and a cut that required stitches to his leg,” Headings said.

The school remained in contact with the parent of the student and the driver of the car, also a Washington Elementary School parent, throughout the afternoon and evening.
