WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Police Department has issued an update in its investigation into a husky named Lupa and a pig named Elvis Pigsley who were found in a hot van last week. The animals are still being cared for and examined by veterinarians so the animal control officer can determine the best course of care.
Public Information Officer Gunner Fulmer reports that the owner of the van arrived on foot and the animals were taken against the owner’s wishes.
“The owner stated to officers that her van had been stolen and that she had been looking for it,” Fulmer wrote in a news release. “During the investigation, officers were finding inconsistencies in her statements about the van and the animals.”
While the course of action has not yet been determined, the release states that the animals’ best interest will come first in such a determination. No charges and no citations have been issued at this date. The release also amends the weight of the pig from 300 down to 200 pounds.
