Unlocked door at Nyssa Middle School led to late-night visitor

NYSSA — Local police along with school officials investigated an incident involving an individual entering an unlocked door after hours at Nyssa Middle School and leaving with an armload of food. The Nyssa Police Department reports, “This individual found an open door and an opportunity to take a little tour of Nyssa Middle School. Thankfully, there were no items stolen or vandalism to the school — but our visitor did apparently find themselves a snack while they were there!”
NPD states the individual has been identified following a social media blast, and no other information was released.

Dear Nyssa Families and Community:
We want to make our families and community aware of an incident that occurred at Nyssa Middle School late at night.
An exterior door was inadvertently left unsecured, allowing an individual to enter the building. Security cameras captured the individual walking through portions of the school before leaving the building.
The individual took some food items from a classroom. At this time, we have found no evidence that anything else was taken, and there was no damage to the school.
The matter is currently under investigation. Following the incident, we made sure the building was secure and have reviewed our facilities to ensure our buildings are safe and secure for students and staff.
Because this matter is under investigation, we have been careful about sharing information until we could confirm the facts and ensure that doing so would not interfere with the investigation. With rumors and unverified information beginning to circulate, we felt it was important to provide our community with the information we can confirm at this time.
