Union student Ashlee Burtch Received National Honor

UNION- Student Ashlee Burtch of Union has been recognized for superior academic achievement and has been selected to become a member of The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).

Ashlee Burtch learned of this honor last month and when asked about how this came about, she said, “I didn’t really care about school that much, then we moved to Union my 8th grade year. Coming from La Grande, Union so extremely small and everyone knew everyone which was amazing. Freshman year was Covid and I really wanted to get a honors diploma. My freshman year allowed me not to get that. After I worked very hard to get good grades and do the best I could. With both my grandma and grandpa passing away I made it my goal to get an academic achievement because both of them wanted me to and that’s what I did.”

According to NSHSS, “The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.”

“NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of the initial membership.  Eash step along the way – from high school to college to career- HSHSS connects outstanding young scholars with the resources they need to develop their strengths and pursue their passions.”
