WALLA WALLA COUNTY – An investigation is underway into the derailment of a Union Pacific freight train about three miles south of Wallula at 3:15 p.m. Friday.

Robyn Tysver with Union Pacific’s Media Team reports about a dozen railroad cars carrying grain derailed. No one was injured.

Grain did spill, but Tysver said it did not impact the water. The spillage was contained to the railroad’s right of way.

Cleanup is underway, with the derailed railcars expected to be cleared from the tracks sometime this evening (Saturday).
