UNION COUNTY — The Union County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a scam involving fraudulent text messages about concealed handgun licenses (CHLs). According to reports from other sheriff’s offices across the state, individuals are receiving texts claiming their CHLs are expiring soon and requesting the completion and submission of a form.

Officials say that these messages are a scam. The Union County Sheriff’s Office says it only notifies CHL holders of impending expiration through letters sent via mail.

Authorities are currently uncertain whether the scammers are seeking money or attempting to obtain personal information. Residents are advised not to complete or submit any forms received through these unsolicited texts.
