In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office emphasized that individuals are typically well aware if there is a warrant for their arrest, and such notices do not come via phone calls. Scammers have been known to allege that individuals failed to show up for jury duty, missed a court date, or have unpaid fines as part of their scheme.
The Sheriff’s Office reassured the public that warrants are not issued for missing jury duty or court dates, and law enforcement agencies do not demand money over the phone for such matters. They urged residents to exercise caution and not share any personal information over the phone.
Community members who receive suspicious calls are encouraged to contact the Union County Sheriff’s Office at the non-emergency number 541-963-1017 to verify the authenticity of the call.
