UNION COUNTY – (Information from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.) The Union County Search and Rescue team was recognized at the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association’s end of the year award banquet. Search and Rescue Coordinator for Union County Nick Vora and SAR Volunteer Kyle Tucker received the Program of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards respectively.

Nick Vora gave his thoughts on the awards as well as highlighting Tucker’s continued dedication to volunteer service:

“He doesn’t just volunteer with search and rescue, he volunteers with things for school, for ski patrol and for the fire department. In addition to missions, he also helps out substantially with equipment, with maintenance and training. This award he received, I think it really helps underline the value that volunteers have to us in Union County and the state of Oregon as well as the commitments and effort that people like Kyle put in.”

In speaking of his own award, Vora further highlighted the work put in by the Union County Sheriff’s Office and their various volunteers in allowing SAR to operate effectively:

“I think being given that award and accepting it speaks so much not just to me, but to the leadership that we have at the sheriff’s office. Even with limited resources that all divisions of the sheriff’s office have to deal with, the sheriff provides all of the support that he does for us to do our job as best we can. We have a lot of people like Kyle who put in a tremendous amount of time and who are incredibly dedicated and committed to search and rescue and public safety in Union County. While I may have been the recipient of that award, it speaks to a much larger extent about our organization and the culture that we have that allows us to be successful.”
